When we first went to Wowies we were
expecting the same basket food-Hooters-lame sports bar approach
to the stereotype "Sports Bar" Once we found it (it is strategically
hidden in the Garden shops on the SWcorner of Palmetto Park and Powerline) we immediately fell in love.
Though probably a hideout for locals
and ITB employees, Wowies excels where all other sports themed restaurants
fall short. The decor is not
cluttered, it is beautifully done with brick and tasteful walls. The
window treatments are brilliant and keep
the Florida sun at bay. The restrooms are clean and well kept.
The tables and bars comfortable and
welcome spending the whole game! There are now three bars including
an excellent patio that makes the other stores around you seem to disappear! The food... yes THE FOOD IS SUPERB! All the fantastic presentations are as appealing to the eye as walking into the finest Las Olas restaurants. We have been privileged to be able to be regulars and can honestly say that every single meal has been excellent! The entire pizza menu is delightful, the mahi is our personal favorite but all the entrees have been worthy of praise. In homage to the traditional sports bar menu there are excellent wings (the hot are well worth it!) The appetizers are all a meal to themselves and on a personal note the black & blue shrimp, mozzarella wedges, and spinach andartichoke dip are among our favorites. Anyone fool enough to order a salad in a sports bar must realize they are just getting the leftover condiments from the frozen burgers ~ NOT HERE! They are fresh and made to order, again worth of the finest bistro! And the burgers, our personal weakness, are all excellent and fresh made with an the outstanding choice of sweet potato or regular fries. For the real strong at heart the "BlackJack" burger is the best! Beer buckets, top shelf wells, single malts, fine wines, and some of the most amazing drink specials in Florida are here!
